cooking_gamesYep, it’s true they do. It never ceases to amaze me, but there seems to be a game for just about everything and everyone now a days.  I tend to like a lot of fiction in my games,  so it’s not unusual to find me zipping around the galaxy or casting magical spells against the weirdest monsters around when I play games.   But I’ve also seen incredibly popular games that were based around running a lemonade stand, serving beer in a bar, cooking games,  and just plain old dressing and undress of dolls. I can’t say you’ll ever catch me playing one, but apparently there is quite a following of them around.  Otherwise, i don’t think you find so many free online cooking games around.  Now personally, I think it’s great that there are so many successful games around, that cover so many different areas of play.

Even if I don’t play them, I believe that the more people there are involved in making, selling, promoting and playing games the better for all of us.  It makes for a bigger market, and more skilled artisans in the game production companies.  I always used to say, that God invented computers for games, and all that other financial, database, payroll,  and administrative stuff was just a was of good silicon.  And, this coming from a guy that used to support just those kinds of systems.

Now hey, my kids love playing cooking games.  They also like playing fighting games, space games, word games and games on their Wii.  Diversity in games as an industry is essential for the market to grow.  The more types of games out there, the more likely the chances that people who would otherwise not get hooked into playing start to play.  And once their in, then we have them.  They’ll simply move from one game type to another, and before you know it, they’ll be playing all sorts of games they never would have touched before.  My wife for example got really hooked on the free version of Zuma a few years ago.  Before she played very few games.  Now,  it’s not unusual to find her playing Rock Band on our Nintento Wii, or the latest game apps downloaded onto my daughters iPod Touch.  She’s hooked, and there’s no way she’ll ever get out;)

Games are great for everyone.  The more they innovate, the better.  It’s quite remarkable to see these days, how games have reached markets no one would have thought possible.  I’m sure you’ve heard of Nintendo Wii consoles ending up in retirement homes for the seniors to play.  It’s true.  I’ve had grandmas and grandpas in my house playing bowling and baseball in my family room.  Even I wouldn’t have predicted that happening a few years ago.  So, yes they do have cooking games, and who knows what else those crazy games designers will be baking up down the road.
