It is absolutely essential to set goals for yourself and write them down. So many people still don’t understand how important it is to do this. Some have a vague idea of what they would like to have happen in the future but they don’t even have a rough plan of action. If you are not sure of where you are heading, how are you going to know if you ever get there!! I know that sounds a little silly, but when you think about it, you will realize that it makes a lot of sense.

I have been retired from full-time work for many years. I had a responsible position with the Canadian Government but never learned any computer skills because my staff took care of that for me. However, just last November, 2008 I decided that I was going to fulfill a dream and a goal of mine. I was going to have my own home-based internet marketing company. After thoroughly researching many companies, I decided to align myself with Carbon Copy Pro. What impressed me the most about them was that they were a complete marketing system that had been developed to help solve problems most people faced in a home-based business and they provided all the tools for success. If you can imagine, they even close the deals for you!!

I stumbled upon a video of their 2008 Convention that took place just before I joined them. They were offering a program called the 2009 Carbon Copy Pro 90 Day Challenge. I was able to sign up for it and last evening (February 23, 2009) we had the last webinar of the series. One of the instructors suggested that we record the progress we had made over the last 90 days. This got me thinking about where I am today compared to where I was when I started the program. At the beginning, I had never written an article, let along had one published, I had never created a video or even been in one, I had never had a blog or a Facebook or a Twitter account….in fact I didn’t even know what a number of these things were.

So what have I managed to accomplish during this period of time? I have learned that I love to write and have written 20 articles that have all been published by EzineArticles. That in itself would have made me deliriously happy…but I also managed to get all 20 articles on the first page of Google and many of them were even in the first position.

I then purchased a little webcam and threw myself into making videos. I now have 26 videos uploaded to YouTube and I have 37 people actually subscribing to my YouTube channel, so that they can be informed whenever I produce a new video. People are leaving me very complimentary comments and thanking me for helping them with their business.

I initially started a WordPress.com blog but have recently switched over to a WordPress.org blog, which I host myself. I am now learning the intricacies of blogging and how to create my own capture pages. I posted my first Press Release a month or so back and will be posting another one this week. I have 567 followers (and growing) on Twitter and 865 followers (so far) on Facebook and I have developed some great relationships by networking on these two sites.

In retrospect, I realize that I have accomplished a great deal during the last 90 days, but this is only the beginning.

I know you have all heard people say “if I can do it, then anyone can!” Well, I am a 65 year old, retired woman, with no previous computer or marketing skills. If you have the desire to reach your goals, then believe me, nothing can or will stop you from accomplishing them. The right person or the right information will ‘magically’ come along at just the perfect time. It really is very exciting and I would like to encourage any of you that are thinking of starting your own home-based business, to just go for it. There is no better time than right now. There are going to be millions of new millionaires created in the next ten years and there is no reason on earth why you can’t be one of them.

One final word….if you ever have the opportunity to sign up for the next 2009 Carbon Copy Pro 90 Day Challenge, then go for it. The training is awesome.

Since it’s so new on the scene, Facebook has had unprecedented growth and expansion in just two short years. Similar to other social media sharing sites, Facebook allows chiropractors to network and connect to highly targeted groups of people in their community, thus expanding the reach of their chiropractic practice. The potential for leverage is unheard of. Every big company sees the writing on the wall, and they’re fighting to get in on the action.

Microsoft, Google, and Yahoo supposedly engaged in a high-stakes bidding war to just purchase a small share of Facebook’s massive appeal and success. Microsoft eventually sealed the deal, shelling out 240 million bucks for just less than 2% of the company! What should this mean to you as a chiropractor and business owner? Well, if these big-dogs are salivating at lucrative possibilities, you should be too from a new patient and branding standpoint. From the previous purchase, it’s estimated that Facebook is now worth in excess of 15 billion!

I began to teach social networking and social media marketing to chiropractors about 3 years ago, and the success of my students has been inspiring to say the least. 3 years ago it was MySpace that was the most popular, and since then Facebook has taken the cake, no longer being a site just for college kids. Now MySpace is trying to follow in the steps of Facebook, but the two combined are a formidable powerhouse for chiropractic marketing.

So, why have I been “shouting on the roof-tops” about the goldmine of social media websites like Facebook for years? In case you are unaware, Facebook has over 140 million active members at this moment and is growing by more than 200,000 new users daily! That type of swirling buzz should grab any business owner or entrepreneurs attention very quick.

By starting a chiropractic marketing campaign on these social media sites, you’re meeting countless people from your community while creating credibility for your practice. Create a personal relationship with these people, and you better believe that you’re going to be the first person they think of when they have a chiropractic issue. When these people trust you, they’re going to be marching through your door seeking your services.

Quite honestly, chiropractic marketing in this new innovative way is incredibly fun, not to mention it’s absolutely free. If you have a product or service that can be marketed internationally, you can connect with “keyword” specific people across the globe in minutes, too. For example, I know authors that have sold thousands of books because of putting them in front of specific people / niches with highly targeted literature interests. That is just the tip of the iceberg by what you can do with social networks. You can also personalize your profile with photos, videos and songs you enjoy. Facebook allows you to poke and send messages to other friends with loads of additional activities.

When the big guns like Google and Microsoft see a tidal wave coming, you better believe they’re seeing correctly. They see the profits about to pour in from Facebook, and they’re acting accordingly. This means that chiropractors can ride that wave as well. Start by creating your first account on Facebook and getting to know the site.

Join groups on these social media sites that you identify with and share your story with the world. When you not only sell your practice but also sell yourself as a product, you will have much more success. Brand yourself and clearly establish yourself as the leader in your field, building credibility and respect. Soon people will follow the leader, and walk through your doors needing your services.

We are in business to make money, it’s as simple as that. We have a product that we know can make us money, or we have a service that we know people need. We could have the best looking website on the internet, but if people cannot find the website, then we have problems. Thats why we need to advertise our business, and promote the life out of it, if we want to succeed and make money.

When it comes to advertising there are many business owners who literally cringe. Are you doing this now? There is a good chance that you are because many advertising methods cost money. As a business owner you want to make money not spend it, right? Unfortunately, if you believe that all forms of advertising take money, you are sadly mistaken. Although you may have to spend money to make your business what you want it to be, there are ways to promote your business and the products or services that you sell without having to spend any money at all.

Is your curiosity peaked yet? There is a good chance that it is, rightfully so. One of the ways that you can promote your online business, without having to spend a dime, is by using something that is readily available online. That thing is an online social networking website. A large number of internet users, in fact millions of them, belong to at least one social networking website.

Social networking sites, started out life as a place for businesses. Today, they are used by millions of people world-wide, for making friends and building relationships etc. They are still used also for business, and as a business owner, you can use this trafic to your advantage.

As stated earlier, social networking sites are great for promoting your business, altho they are nowadays used for making friendships but don’t let this put you off using them. Millions of people access these social networking websites each day, and many of these people are potential customers, so it is definatley a valuable resource. There are many social networking websites, Myspace, Facebook Yahoo 360 and many others.

Your business needs customers, and as mentioned earlier, social networking websites are a great way to go about this. But you need to do it correctly. If you sign up at one of the larger social networking websites like Facebook, Bebo etc you need to create your own profile. Do not create a page about your business as this is not a good way to do this. It is best to create a profile about yourself, and also include information on your business, as people hate to be solicited for business.

Facebook, Yahoo 360, Bebo etc are some of the biggest social networking websites on the internet, so its best to join one of these. More people gives you a better chance of doing well, and remember to keep your profile page, both personal and business based, to give you a better chance of doing well.

After reviewing many of these social networking sites, it is obvious that most successful internet marketers are participating in this scene, to some extent. However, a word of warning here…these sites are not meant for blatantly promoting your own website and opportunity. They should be used to exchange ideas and information and to develop relationships with like-minded people.

The social networking sites are growing by the day. The most popular ones right now are Twitter, Facebook and MySpace, in that order. There is a ‘new kid on the block’. Their site is BetterNetworker and it is my prediction that by this time next year, they will have themselves a large piece of the action.

TWITTER — This is a free social networking and micro-blogging service. It allows it’s users to send and read other users updates. These are called ‘tweets’. They are only in text form and you are limited to 140 characters in length per post. This can challenge your copywriting skills. You can connect Twitter and Facebook to enable you to post your ‘tweets’ on your Facebook page also.

FACEBOOK — It is also a free website that is privately owned and operated by Facebook Inc. Within Facebook you can join networks that are organized by city, workplace, school or region, to connect and interact with others. You can add ‘friends’ and send them messages. You can also upload pictures and short video. Facebook attracted 132.1 million unique visitors in June, 2008.

MY SPACE — Once again, another free site with an interactive network of friends, blogs, groups, personal profiles, music, video and photos. My space is international, as are the other social networking sites mentioned here. Back in June of 2006 it was the most popular networking site in the U.S. However, in April, 2008 it was taken over in popularity by Facebook. However, it still attracts approximately 230,000 new users per day.

BETTERNETWORKER — The latest social networking site is the ‘brainchild’ of Mike Dillard, the creator of Magnetic Sponsoring and many other popular programs. This site is working very hard to be true to it’s purpose and not be a smokescreen for pitching product or service, without contributing something of value to the members. To date, I have seen an impressive exchange of useful information on BetterNetworker and I highly recommend it.

A word of caution when it comes to using these sites…..many useless hours can be spent reading through posts, blogs, watching videos etc. Some people think that it is a quick fix to adding hundreds of people to your mailing list and it definitely is not. However, if done right it can produce great results. A good friend of mine has developed a very large following on Twitter and recently he sent a ‘tweet’ about a new opportunity. His followers went to the recommended site and a week or so later my friend had earned in excess of $40,000.00 in affiliate commissions. This was his reward for building a large group of followers who trusted, respected and liked him.

Social networking has become an integral part of doing business on the internet for a great percentage of the top producers involved in network marketing. They would not be spending the time to do this if it wasn’t lucrative for them. Yes, if this is done properly it can certainly reap rich rewards.
