We’ve had our Nintento Wii for a little over a year now, and it continues to be a lot of fun. We bought it back in Christmas 2007, and though it went through a spell, where it didn’t seem to be getting used very much, we realized, that it was just in some need of a minor facelift. The nice thing about gaming consoles, is that you can make your $300 investment seem like new again simply by buying some new games for it. Good for us the consumer, and good for the games designers that produce the games.

When we first bought the Wii, I think the only games we had for it, were the ones that came with it, and the Wii Play games, which came with the extra Wii remote that everybody seemed to be buying. Of that set of games, Wii Tennis had to be my favorite. Perhaps because I like playing Squash anyway, Wii Tennis was our favorite family game for a while. Baseball and Boxing were also fun, but we were starting to move on, and renting games from our local video store.

One game that seemed worth buying was the Lego Star Wars game. Initially I played it with the kids, but quickly my wife became quite attached to playing the game, and pretty soon her and the kids became quite good with it. Even to this day, they will load it up and play. It was such a big hit, that it prompted another purchase from the Lego franchise, specifically, the Lego Indiana Jones game. This one gets played quite a bit, as they were familiar with the game play from the Star Wars game.

A couple of other popular games with us had to be SSX Blue, and Dance Dance Revolution. SSX Blue started as a rental, but after a while we decided it was worth purchasing. It doesn’t get played a lot these days, but every once in a while it gets used. Dance Dance Revolution on the other had, has been extremely popular for periods of time, as the kids seem to be really gung ho on it for long periods of time. This one still get’s used quite a bit.

My favorite though, has to be Rock Band II. It was an addition this Christmas, and still sees more time in the player than any other. Lego Indy is a close second though. I found Rock Band a little tricky at first to get the hang off, as reading music that way still seems a little funky to me. My ten years playing drums in competitive drum corps and several high school bands didn’t really help out a lot at first. Although with a little practice, I’ve gotten better. I can actually play Livin’ On A Prayer by Bon Jovi at expert level, and most other drum songs on the hard level. I’m mediocore on guitar, and rarely venture beyond medium difficulty.

So, there you have it, a brief collection of the most fun Wii games as voted for by this family. On the bummer side, a few to stay away from would be Far Cry, and Lost In Blue.
